Caring for destination

This accommodation provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.

Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:

The Thulamahashe Childrens' Home Trust

This love-filled Home is a safe haven for abandoned and orphaned children.

Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:

Currently, the youngest member of the ‘family' is 3 months old - a baby girl abandoned by her mother and the oldest is a 17-year old in his last year of school. The physical amenities of the Home are Spartan, with a tiny kitchen to cater for all their needs and one bathroom.

They are barley coping but the dream of the Thulamahashe Childrens' Home Board of Governors is to raise enough funds to build a new home, owned by them. In that way they will be assured of continued existence and be able to supplement the meagre public grants on which it currently has to rely to ensure a normal life for all the children it takes in.

As a result of careful planning and dedicated fundraising the Board has already purchase a piece of land on which they want to build their new home.

Kapama Private Game Reserve has adopted the Thulamahashe Children's Home to contribution to the social upliftment of the less fortunate in the local community. In helping the program, Kapama has set up a Trust Fund, which it administers on behalf of the Home. As soon as the sufficient funds have been raised, Kapama, and the Governors of the Home, will use its own building team to ensure that their dream home is successfully and properly turned into reality.

You can visit the Thulamahashe Children's' Home and experience a moving but heart-warming day.
