Lion Sands River Lodge has an outstanding location on the banks of the Sabie River, in the southern section of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, an area well known for its spectacular game viewing. You don't even have to leave the lodge for excellent sightings; it's not uncommon to spot an elephant or giraffe while relaxing on a lounger alongside the swimming pool.
This Big 5 safari area is exclusive to guests of Lions sands, so you won't be stuck with crowds of other vehicles. Lion, elephant, white rhino, leopard, cheetah, buffalo and wild dog are all frequently spotted, and drivers will even take you off road to find some of the more rare animals. Between game viewing activities you can treat yourself to a session at the lodge health spa.
Lion Sands River lodge has been family owned and managed since 1932, and offers the highest standard of service. You get the feeling that the employees are happy to be working there, and take real pride in what they do. Common areas include a gym, a well-stocked curio shop and a superb bar overlooking the river.
When staying at River Lodge, you have the opportunity to spend a night at Lion Sands Tree House for an additional cost. A ranger will drop you at the tree house and collect you in the morning. You can spend a night deep in the African wilderness, while still maintaining contact with the lodge via radio.

The food at Lion Sands River Lodge is delicious and plentiful. During your stay you will be offered unique dishes such as 'Zebra & Black Cherry Potjie' or 'Crocodile Kebabs with a lemon butter and apricot sauce'. The lodge has both an indoor and open-air (Boma) dining area, or there is also the option of bush breakfast and dinners.
Dining in the bush is a truly unforgettable experience. You are driven to either the river hide, or one of the open plains, where a full table is set and, during your meal, animals are often seen wandering by.

Policies and Other Information
No late checkouts are allowed, as the rooms have to be readied for the new arrivals.
Children policy:
We regret that we are unable to accommodate children under the age of 10 years unless the lodge is block booked by the same family or group. A child aged 10 or 11 years and sharing a suite at Lion Sands Lodge with two full paying adults, will pay 50% of the per person sharing rate. Children in their own suite will pay the standard adult rates.
