Located in the southern hemisphere, South Africa's summer stretches from September to April and winter is from May to August. The Kruger National Park, however, is hot and dry all the year round - summer or winter. The average temperature ranges from 18°C to 30°C. The summer months are sunny and see occasional showers; temperatures in the shadow range from 18°C to 30°C. The winter months, meanwhile, are warm and dry, with temperatures between 8°C and 22°C. December, January and February are the hottest months of the year, when temperatures in Western Kruger go over 31°C and rarely fall below 20°C. During this season, tourists are likely to spot the animals at the waterholes in the mornings and evenings.
While this hot region does experience some amount of summer rainfall, the rainy season never guarantees as much rain as the locals would like. Thus, droughts are sometimes experienced. During winter, the days are usually bright and clear and the evenings are cold.
